During his stint inVietnam, Bowers, Sr. was usuallyup front leading his fellowsoldiers. At one point, theyentered Laos, where notmany “friendlies”went because of the danger. His awareness and instincts avoided disaster. “I sawsome tripwire lines attached tomines and stopped the rest of the guys,” Bowers. Sr. told SeminoleTribunewriter BeverlyBidney in 2019. “I saved thewhole company.” Bowers, Sr. earned two PurpleHearts during his service prior to being honorablydischarged in 1970 due to a ruptured eardrum. Itwas then that rodeo once again became part of his life. “I started oƒwith junior rodeoswhen Iwas younger, andwhen I rst got back fromthewar, I couldn’t nd a job, so I got back involvedwith rodeo,” says Bowers, Sr. “People kind ofmade fun ofme. They said, ‘What didyou do in the service?’ I told them, ‘I carried amachine gun.’ Theywould then tellme, ‘Well, we don't have a job here for amachine gunner.’ I didn't appreciate that, but I had to nd something today, so I started rodeoing.” TheBowers familyhas been involved in rodeo ever since.

Bowers, Jr. is partnerswithMartyJohns in 5 Star Rodeo. In 2021, one of their bucking horses, Archie, earned a spot in theNFR. Ahighlightwaswhen RyderWright scored 84.5 onArchie during round two to nish fourth and earn $9,144. In the 1980s, Bowers, Sr. started his own herd in BigCypress, Florida, and he also served as theBig Cypress BoardRepresentative for about a dozen years. He remains active in rodeowithWeekley and helpswith sponsorship and other details for the SoutheasternCircuit Finals, which is the Championship for 96 Professional Cowboys and Cowgirls fromFlorida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, and SouthCarolina. The SoutheasternCircuit is one of the top Professional RodeoCowboysAssociationCircuits within theUnited States, with $250,000 in prize moneyon the line in addition to championship belt buckles and saddles. Theyear-end champ and nals champ qualify for the $1million RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo.

Dec. 7 THE LINDERMAN AWARD – Josh Frost & NFR MILITARY HONORS PRESENTED BY BOOT BARN – Henry “Robby” Robinson, Jr. and Bill Feddersen Josh Frost is the 2022 PRCA Linderman Award winner, which is one of the most prestigious awards in ProRodeo that recognizes a cowboy who won at least $1,000 in three events. Also, World War II veterans Robby Robinson, Jr. and Bill Feddersen are honored.

Dec. 8 CASEY TIBBS NFR LEGACY AWARD - Joe Beaver Joe Beaver, a 3-time All-Around World Champion and 5-time Tie-Down Roping World Champion, follows Larry Mahan and Ty Murray as winners of the prestigious Casey Tibbs Award.

Dec. 6 NFR MILITARY HONORS PRESENTED BY BOOT BARN – Clinton Romesha Staƒ Sergeant Clinton Romesha, a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient and grandson of a bronc rider, is honored for his heroic actions during the 2009 Battle of Kamdesh during the war in Afghanistan.
