Feild Breaks Bareback Record with Sixth World Title
Kaycee Feild added another line to his storied rodeo biography in December, greatest bareback rider ever. In his 12th National Finals Rodeo appear ance, Feild cemented his name in the record books after he claimed his sixth PRCAWorld Champion ship, breaking the tie with ProRodeo Hall of Famers Joe Alexander and Bruce Ford. The bareback rider was overcome with emotion following the accep tance of his latest gold buckle. “This is a numb feeling,” Feild said. “Honestly, I’ve dreamed about giving this speech a lot. I really have. It is an unreal feeling.What’s most important to me is my family and having them here and experiencing this with me. Then, the records I’m breaking and putting my name down in history, which will last a lot longer than I’m alive. That’s much more valuable than any business or any piece of land, I could leave for my kids. The Feild
name, the Feild legacy that my dad (late ProRodeo Hall of Famer Lewis Feild) started is something I’m very proud of.” The Genola, Utah, cowboy’s showing at the 2021 NFR was impressive. Feildmade his presence felt, visiting the pay window nine of the 10 nights including four go-round victories. His most notable victory came in Round 5 when Feild rode Brookman Rodeo’s Famous Dex for a 91-point ride. With fellow cowboy Jess Pope closing the gap, Feild clinched the title in Round 10 with a second place 89.5-point ride on Pickett Pro Rodeo’s New Scarlet, earning $21,336. “My mindset in the chute (in Round 10) was deep breathes, a strong mark out and ride as perfectly as you can,” Feild said. “Nothing else matters. There’s one thing you can do and that is ride to the best of your ability and that’s what I did.”

Feild’s four go-round victories broke an NFR record for most career round wins in bareback riding at 27. He surpassed Bobby Mote’s previous mark of 25. “I’m overwhelmed with that record and beating Bobby Mote,”said Feild, 34. “He was my toughest competitor in my early career.” The cowboy finished the NFR with 872.5 points on 10 head, earning him second place in the average. His earnings during the 10 nights totaled $231,564, the highest earner amongst all contestants in a single event. As such, Feild was presented with the RAM Top Gun Award, which included a $20,000 voucher towards a new vehicle and a Commemorative Firearms rifle. Feild ended his 2021 season atop the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $357,420, the highest mark of his career. It’s a testament to the mentality he had coming into Las Vegas. “I wanted to come down here and ride here with authority and finish stronger than anybody,” Feild said. “I feel that I accomplished all of my goals and did my job.” – Dagin Renck
