What is Xtreme Broncs?

The PRCA Xtreme Broncs Tour is a series of events that features only saddle bronc riding competition. These stand-alone events were first approved by the PRCA in 2016. In 2021, there were events across the country

that concluded with a finale in Rapid City, S.D. The format: the Top 12 saddle bronc riders in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings and the Top 12 contestants in the Xtreme Broncs standings competed in a long go and a short go for the Xtreme Broncs title and a portion of $60,000 added money. All money earned on the tour and in the tour finale counted toward qualifying for theWrangler National Finals Rodeo. 2021 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS • A year after having his season derailed due to a serious concussion Dawson Hay was back and better than ever in 2021. • TheWildwood, Alberta, saddle bronc rider returned to theWrangler National Finals Rodeo this season for the second time. He put himself in prime position to do that after winning his first PRCA Xtreme Broncs Tour title with $62,254. The championship comes after he won the PRCA Xtreme Broncs Tour Finale on Aug. 26. • Hay took it to the 25-rider field at the Tour Finale, winning the two-head average with 179 points to edge out Wade Sundell – who split the 2019 Xtreme Broncs Tour Finale title – by a half point. It was a bittersweet moment for the young cowboy. • “It’s an incredible feeling, and honestly, I just feel truly blessed to be healthy this time of year for once,” said Hay, 23. “Last year things were going really well, but then I got hurt and had to miss most of the season, it was disappointing. It’s one of the first years I’ve been completely healthy, and to be able to compete at rodeos like these I’m tickled pink.” • Hay earned $26,678 at the finale after tying for second in the first round, winning the short go and winning the average. The average win was worth $14,241. • He secured not only the finale win but the tour title with a 92-point ride on Sutton Rodeo’s South Point in the short round. It’s a horse he last faced at the 2019 National Finals Rodeo. • Hay wrapped up the 2021 PRCA Xtreme Broncs Tour in the top spot with $62,254, nearly doubling two-timeWorld Champion Zeke Thurston’s runner-up tour earnings of $36,906.
