Miss Rodeo America holds special meaning in the Western sports world. Each year the Miss Rodeo America pageant is held in conjunction with the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. In 2023, thirty-one reigning state rodeo queens vied for the coveted crown of Miss Rodeo America by competing in the areas of appearance, horsemanship, and personality. Emma Cameron spent the past year traveling up and down the road serving her home state as Miss Rodeo New Mexico. After eight days of pageantry, she’ll have a much larger area to cover in 2024. As Cameron was selected as the newly minted Miss Rodeo America. It’s a dream come true for the Santa Fe, N.M., native. “It’s such an honor and honestly, it’s something you dream about your whole life,”said Cameron.“I’ve been doing rodeo and rodeo queen pageants my entire life and this is the culmination of it. So, for it to work out in my favor and be able to represent rodeo across the country - I’m super grateful.” Cameron is the 68th woman to wear the crown as Miss Rodeo America and the first from the state of New Mexico since 1969. Her love for the sport of rodeo and pageants began at a young age with a connection to a former MRA. “I grew up going to Junior rodeos and each weekend my mom would tell me I had to say hi to three people every weekend before I was allowed to go home.”Cameron said.“That was the rule because I was so shy. “In 2013, when Chenae Shiner was Miss Rodeo America, I competed in my first pageant. She was actually the fifth Miss Rodeo America to also have been a National High School Rodeo queen who went on to become Miss Rodeo America and this makes me the sixth. So, that’s an honor and something I’d really been gunning for.” Cameron couldn’t be more excited to hit the road as Miss Rodeo America with a handful of exciting destinations already on the docket for the 2024 ProRodeo season. “I get to go to so many incredible places. I’m just ready to hit the ground running. They gave me the schedule up until Houston and I’m not exactly sure what it looks like after that, but I’m really excited to hopefully get back to some New Mexico rodeos as Miss Rodeo America,” Cameron said. “They were telling me it’s been a long time since Miss Rodeo America got to go to New Mexico. So, that would be really special.” – Tanner Barth
