TRISYN KALAWAIA MOTIVATED TO CARRY HAWAIIAN FLAG IN LAS VEGAS
By Alex Dodd
T en years ago, Cody Cabral rode out onto the arena dirt of the Thomas & Mack Center during the grand entry for the 2016 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. He carried a Hawai ian flag, something that rarely graces the arena dirt during PRORODEO’s signa ture event. The steer wrestler earned the nick name ‘The Flyin’ Hawaiian’ early in his career and was the most recognizable name in PRORODEO from The Aloha State since Maui native Myron Duarte qualified for the NFR eight times in bull riding (1995-97, 1999, 2001-2004). Cabral’s trip to Las Vegas in 2016 marked the first for a Hawaiian since Duarte’s last appearance at the NFR.
