WYOMING’S OWN HAYDEN WELSH WINS CHEYENNE FRONTIER DAYS XTREME BULLS By Alex Dodd

H ayden Welsh didn’t know exactly what he said when he climbed up on the fence and yelled toward the crowd after his winning ride at Frontier Park July 21. But he knows it was about Wyo ming. The Resistol Rookie sensation from Gillette, Wyo., certainly gave a packed grandstand of hometown fans what it wanted during the Cheyenne Frontier Days Xtreme Bulls – part of the Rank 45 Xtreme Bulls Series – on July 21.

Welsh entered the final night of competition as the leader, but a stacked field put the pressure on him as the second night wore on. John Crimber, the defending Pro fessional Bull Riding (PBR) cham pion, posted a stout 183.5 points on two head. Then, Qynn Andersen, the defending Cheyenne Frontier Days bull riding champ, raised the bar to 184.5 points. But Welsh was waiting, and he knew what he needed to get to the top

– a 91-point ride. The Cowboy State product respond ed by matching Dakota Rodeo’s Bad lands for a 92-point trip, winning the two-head average with 185.5 points and cashing in with a massive payday of $26,660. “When that bar keeps going up, you just have to eat that pressure like a piece of candy.
