MULLINS MATCHES ALL THREE BULLS TO WIN TITLE A very Mullins wanted to prove himself heading into the NFR Open. He had qualified out of the Turquoise Cir cuit, representing his home state of Arizona as a 19-year old Resistol Rookie. The NFR Open was his chance to prove himself as a cowboy that can compete against some of the best in the world. Following the finals, Mullins announced he had broken his C6 vertebra in his neck and had three fractures in his up per back. He said he will be out for at least a few months. “That was the first time I’ve been 90 and when I heard 91, it kinda made everything feel better for just a second,” Mullins said. “I’ve always known I can hang with every body. I just had to put everything together mentally and physically.” He did that and more in Pool C as the only cowboy to have two qualified rides. He followed it up with a 91-point ride in the finals on Universal Pro Rodeos’ Dirty Bru to win the title and a total of $23,750.
