THE CERVI FAMILY: ROOTED IN RODEO LASTING LEGACY BY TANNER BARTH T here are families all across the country that have provided a helping hand in making the sport of rodeo what it is today. The Cervi Family is certainly near the top of that list. They have left their imprint on the sport and continue to do so today as one of the largest stock contracting firms in PRORODEO. Their story of success would be difficult to replicate today. “Rodeo stock contractors are the foundation of the sport in my opinion,” said Chase Cervi, who runs Cervi Championship Rodeo alongside his brother Binion. It’s a legacy that dates back hundreds of years to a desolate stretch of land in Northeast Colorado. It all began in 1883, when Bill and Dan Reagan homesteaded the family ranch just outside of Stoneham, Colo., where their original housing structure still stands today. The homestead was rooted in its foundation on Mike Cervi’s mother’s side of the family. “Stoneham was a family homestead all the way back in the late 1800s, which it is pretty rough country out there in the Pawnee Grasslands,” Binion Cervi said. “It was homesteaded by our great-great uncle and our great grandfather.” Along came Mike, who was born Sept. 9, 1936. He grew up in what most would classify as the big city in the heart of Denver, but those closest to him say his involvement in the Western way of life was always a given. “It all starts with Mike Cervi, who wanted to be a cowboy growing up in Cherry Creek Hills in Littleton, Colo.,”

“It’s very important to our family to support that next generation of rodeo athletes because the roughstock end and the cowboy in life is kind of a dying breed.” – CHASE CERVI
