BY THE NUMBERS 1977 The exact dates were July 8-17, 1977, when Jack Hannum of Ogden, Utah, was the big winner at the Calgary Stampede, earning $7,208 in two events to nab the all-around championship and a new three quarter ton pickup. Hannum earned his money in tie-down roping and steer wrestling. Hannum was a five-time qualifier for the National Finals Rodeo and a longtime administrator with the PRCA. $2K The amount of money ($2,318) earned by Shad Mayfield in steer roping at the Crooked River Roundup in Prineville, Ore., June 20, to qualify himself for the all-around race. Mayfield, the 2020 PRCA Tie-Down Roping World Champion, leads the all-around world standings with $168,955 as of July 10. $23K The amount of money ($23,324) earned by bull rider Tristen Hutchings on the way to winning the Reno (Nev.) Rodeo, June 29. $26K The amount of money ($26,700) earned by bull rider Nick Tetz in three rounds of Pool competition during the Calgary Stampede. Tetz moved on to the Showdown Round July 14.
Seventh annual Sowing Good Deeds Contest The PRCA in conjunction with the ProRodeo Hall of Fame won the Pikes Peak or Bust Award for their float at the annual Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo parade that was held July 6 in down town Colorado Springs, Colo. To match the parade’s theme this year of “Bronco Days”, Bill Ward’s ride on Sea Lion from San Angelo, Texas, in 1956 was showcased on the float.
