Broken Camp at the Ellensburg (Wash.) Rodeo in Sept. 2022, but he learned from his first go on the bronc. The 23-year-old from Challis, Idaho, held on for an 87-point ride on Broken Camp on July 1, in St. Paul to earn the win and $13,099. “The first time I had her, it was a re-ride. Things were kind of rushed, and I didn’t get a very good go at her,” Bruno told the ProRodeo Sports News . “But I like getting rematches with horses that led me around and made me look silly. It’s nice to get on them again, do well and win rodeos, especially ones like St. Paul.” After Bruno’s first ride on Broken Camp, he saw the horse compete at a slew of Columbia River Circuit rodeos and took mental note of its habits. The study paid off at St. Paul. “I knew she was going to start going to the left,” he said. “I was worried about lifting on the reign, staying back, and trying not to let my feet drop when she went down to the left.” Chase Brooks finished second in the event with 86.5 points, and Zachary Dallas finished third with an 85-point ride. On July 11, Bruno sat seventh in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $96,875 as he aims to reach his third-straight Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. “So far, this spring and early summer has been really good,” Bruno said. “The mentality is the same. There’s a lot of rodeoing left, and I’m feeling pretty good. The goal is to stay healthy, keep getting on whatever they’re running underneath me, and make the best out of whatever we draw.” Bruno plans to hit the Calgary Stampede before returning stateside for Salinas, Ogden, Spanish Fork, Salt Lake and Cheyenne Frontier Days. “It’s another really busy week that pays as well, if not better than the Fourth of July run if you do really well. Especially with Calgary and those five rodeos,” Bruno said. “That’s a huge week, and a guy really hopes to draw some good horses and take care of business.”
