The field featured stiff competition and a slew of strong times, with the top four cowboys separated by just over one second in the average. Jorgensen didn’t win a round but strung together a pair of impressive runs to top the average at 11.2 seconds on two head and pocket $5,887. “It’s not your typical non-ride setup. That’s why Prescott is so fun and a little different from other rodeos,” Jorgensen said. “It’s pretty unique with a longer box and longer score. It’s not for everyone and very unique. But it takes good scoring, setting up your run and cleaning them up to be good.” In the first round, Jorgensen finished second in 5.5 seconds and picked up $1,719. In the second round, he went 5.7 seconds to nab fourth and $1,203. The consistency earned him the average win, besting Eric Logan (12.8 seconds) and Stan Braco (13 seconds). “You can’t let your head get so big that your hat doesn’t fit anymore,” Jorgensen said. “You do have to stay humble. But at the same time, you have to have a lion mentality that no one can stop you, and no steer that I draw is going to make a difference.” As of July 8, the Blackfoot, Idaho, cowboy ranked third in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $72,626. Jorgensen said he’s feeling dangerous after winning in Prescott and placing at the Reno (Nev.) Rodeo, St. Paul (Ore.) Rodeo, Basin City (Wash.) Rodeo and Independence Day Rodeo (Oakley City, Utah) to bolster his summer run. “At times when you’re low, it’s difficult to rise. But you just go back to fundamentals,” he said. “When I’m on this high that I’m on, it’s hard to explain. You’re unstoppable, and you feel like you’re King Kong. It doesn’t matter what happens in the jungle here. You’re King Kong. It doesn’t matter what happens.” To keep the good times rolling in steer wrestling, a cowboy needs strong horsepower and a keen awareness of the steers he’s bulldogging. All of those factors contribute to a cowboy’s confidence, and Jorgensen’s is sky-high as he looks to qualify for his fourth Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and his first since 2022. “Horsepower is a big thing, too, and I don’t have to worry about any of that. I know she’s going to put me in the right spot, and all I have to do is focus on what I have to do,” Jorgensen said. “That dang sure helps your confidence and consistency.”
