SCHALLA FAMILY IMPRINTING LEGACY ON PRORODEO ELABORATE STUNTS AND 8-SECOND RIDES
BY ZACH ALVIRA
T here are few things Wacey Schalla cherishes more than climbing into the bucking chutes to get on the back of a bull or bareback horse. It’s his identity. It’s his career. But more than anything, the 20-year-old cowboy from Arap aho, Okla., cherishes the time he can spend with his family. His father, Luke, was a bull rider and saddle bronc rider in the PRCA. His older sister, Madison, is a trick rider. His soon-to be brother-in-law is Jace Trosclair, a bull rider who qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in 2024. His mother, Nikki, is arguably his biggest supporter. Family is important to the young PRORODEO star, it’s why home will always be within a stone’s throw of his parent’s ranch in the small Western Oklahoma town. The youngest cowboy to ever hit $1 million in career earn ings can build his home anywhere. But he chose more than 100 acres of property that became available across the street from the house where he grew up. Remaining close to his parents played a role in the decision to choose that large parcel of land. So did the hot breakfast every morning. “I’ve become spoiled by it,” Wacey said. “I have to treat my self to a hot breakfast from somewhere when I’m on the road. But I’ve become pretty good at making it myself.” Good or not, there are few conversations Wacey loves more with his mom than when she tells him breakfast is on the table or in the warmer. It takes him back to his childhood, when he and some of his friends – including fellow bull riders John Crimber and Avery Mullins – would inundate the Schalla practice arena to ride bulls.
