horses, ranches or anything of the sort, had to learn the ins and outs of the sport from Luke. She picked it up quick and enjoyed it, too. That’s why the two didn’t hesitate to give Wacey and Madison the opportunity to dabble with horses at a young age. Madison was in gymnastics and gravitated toward trick riding when she saw it for the first time in Pagosa Springs, Colo., when Luke was compet ing in a rodeo. At 9 years old, her parents caved and gave her lessons. “It was like my dream coming true,” Madison said. “All the sparkles, it made me excited. I got my start from Dusta Kimzey, and I went to the Red Top Ranch with Karen Vold, so she taught me a lot. When Dusta went back to college she threw me in with Haley (Proctor), who got me started from there.” Madison worked her first rodeo in Kansas. Just a few years later, she was the inaugural specialty act for the Music City Rodeo in Nashville, one of the PRCA’s newest rodeos in 2025.
She returned to the Bridgestone Arena in 2026 to perform yet again, this time for a ro deo that was part of the PRORODEO Playoff Series. Another step in the right direction for the 23-year-old cowgirl. “It takes a lot of practice,” Madison said when asked what it takes to be considered for a rodeo of Nashville’s caliber. “You don’t just go out and perform. You have to work really hard to learn what we do, and you have to have good horsemanship.” On top of horsemanship, having good horses is also key. That’s where Athena and Bowie come into play. Bowie came from her grandfather. She found Athena on Facebook Marketplace.
