C hase Webster made a statement at the Clovis (Calif.) Rodeo April 24-26, as the 22-year-old cowboy beat out several Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifiers to claim the aggregate title with a time of 47.2 seconds on four head. Webster, who entered Clovis with less than $10,000 in earnings on the season, won Round 2 with a 9.5-second run, then followed it up with another 9.5-second in Round 3. The two times helped him advanced to the finals with a commanding lead of 30.4 seconds on three head – nearly

17 seconds ahead of second place. That cushion proved to be the difference as Webster hit a snag in his final run, stopping the clock at 16.8 seconds to hang on to the aggregate win. “I just wanted to make sure I caught my calf,” Webster said. “That mud was deep, and whenever I got to her, I sank down in the mud a little bit, and then the calf ran. At that point, I just knew I needed to tie her down to get something in the average.”
