PRORODEO announces 2025 Polaris Remuda Awards By Alex Dodd and Zach Alvira

The PRCA is excited to announce the 2025 Polaris Remuda Award winners. The stock contractor honored with the best pen of bucking horses brought to PRCA rodeos this year was Brookman Rodeo, and the rodeo committee recognized for assembling the best pen of bucking hors es was Cheyenne (Wyo.) Frontier Days. The annual Remuda Awards go to the stock contracting firm and rodeo committee that provide the best, most consistent pen of bucking horses, creating the best opportunities for contestants to score well. It marks the first time that Brookman Rodeo and Chey enne Frontier Days received Remuda Awards. “It’s really exciting for us to even be considered for the Remuda Award,” Cheyenne Frontier Days CEO Tom Hir sig said. “There are so many great rodeos out there and the quality of bucking horses has gone through the roof.” Cheyenne Frontier Days held the 128th edition of the Daddy of ‘Em All in the capital of Wyoming this past July. Hirsig gave a special thank you to Stace Smith Pro Ro deos, the primary stock contractor for Cheyenne Frontier Days and acknowledged the other contractors that pro vide livestock for the eight-day rodeo extravaganza. “I think we’re just very thankful that we’ve got Stace Smith, who really cares about our rodeo and is trying to make it one of the best ones when it comes to the bucking horses,” Hirsig said. “He especially takes a lot of pride in it. He’s worked hard to try to get us to this level and it’s great to see that we’re getting acknowledged for it.” Cheyenne Frontier Days will host its 129th annual ro deo from July 17-26, 2026, at Frontier Park. Brookman Rodeo based in Sidney, Mont., added anoth er honor to its long list of accomplishments with its first Remuda Award. “I was like, ‘Really?’ I was pretty excited,” said Cathy

Wieferich, who owns Brookman Rodeo alongside her husband, Dave. “I always felt like we should be a contender. We only have a couple of horses we bought on our own that we’ve used. Otherwise, they’ve been ranch raised. It’s a special honor. There are so many good horses out there.” On Oct. 9, Brookman Rodeo received

word that its bareback horses SOS and Lu natic Heaven and saddle bronc horses Ragin Lunatic and Apollo will appear at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo from Dec. 4-13 in Las Vegas. On Sept. 30, Lunatic Heaven was named the Bareback Riding Horse of the Year as part of the 2025 Pendleton Whisky Let ‘er Buck Bucking Stock of the Year Awards. Her bloodlines are traced back to legendary bucking horse Lunatic Fringe, who was part of the historic breed ing program established by Marvin Brookman, Cathy’s grandfather, founder of Brookman Rodeo and 2005 ProRodeo Hall of Fame inductee. “He would be very proud,” Cathy said. “Grandpa was a very humble person, so he never had a lot to say. I know he would be very honored.” The Remuda Award for stock contractors highlights more than one great bucking horse and recognizes the consistency displayed by a pen throughout an entire PRORODEO season. “As many rodeos as we go to, it’s truly an honor,” said Tate Wieferich, the son of Cathy and Dave who helps run Brookman Rodeo. “It doesn’t matter how many you get to Vegas. When you get awards like this at the end of the year, it all adds up. It’s just special.” Cheyenne Frontier Days and Brookman Rodeo will receive their awards at the PRCA Awards Banquet, which will be held on Dec. 3 at the South Point Hotel Casino in Las Vegas.
