Exploring the steer roping journey of Dan, Vin and J. Tom Fisher Kings

BY TRACY RENCK T he Fisher family has left a large imprint in the world of PRCA steer roping, highlighted by father, Dan (16), his sons, Vin Fisher Jr. (21) and J. Tom (12) having 49 total qualifications to the National Finals Steer Roping, including J. Tom’s gold buckle season in 2022. In the latest edition of the Highwaymen, we peel back the curtain on the family and see what the journey was like for Dan, Vin and J. Tom to become not only great steer ropers, but great businessmen and pillars in the Andrews, Texas, community. The Fisher family addresses numerous topics like Vin graduating from Texas Tech University with the plan to be a lawyer only to see that take an immediate detour because law school wasn’t for him. Instead, he got involved in the oil business, somewhat by chance, and to say that was a smart decision is a gross understatement. Vin is not only an outstanding steer roper, but he also has a booming oil business and J. Tom works with him – it is just another success story for this family.
