HALL OF FAMER JIM SUTTON Sutton started the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo in 1978. To draw attendance to the rodeo, he created the Wrangler Bull Fights, the Bailey Bail-Off, World Championship Wild Horse Race, Bull Poker, and Teeter-Totter. Sutton’s pageantry and showmanship earned him National Finals Rodeo Opening Ceremony credits in 1995 and 1996. BY PRCA STAFF

Phil Lyne and Jim Sutton both helped define rodeo. Both were inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, Lyne as one of the few contes tants to excel in every rodeo event and Sutton as a stock contractor who developed a breeding program that remains one of the best in the business. PRCA file photo

Jim Sutton was drafted by the Minneapolis Lakers and attended their training camp. However, he believed following his father and grandfather in the ranching business made more financial sense than a basketball career. It definitely impacted the rodeo world. PRCA file photo
