Wacey (his son) is bulldogging a little bit, so I come to some of the rodeos he goes to here and there. I pick and choose. I’m old enough that I don’t have to go to the rodeos that I don’t want to go to.” Wacey Dorenkamp said he remembers when his dad took the job at the PRCA and said he’s in his element. “He was working on the railroad when I was in college down near me,” Wacey said. “Then the railroad said they were furloughing everybody and he happened to apply to the PRCA. I’ve never seen

him happier, I’ll put it that way. He absolutely loves his job.” Dorenkamp said his experience as a circuit cow boy helps in his current position but there’s a lot involved in running the PRCA Circuit System that he didn’t know prior to working at the PRCA. “I didn’t realize what was going on day-to-day and what had to be done as far as being the director of circuits,” Dorenkamp said. “People call and you tell them, ‘You have to have this and do this in order to make your circuit finals.’ There are criteria that have to be met and a lot of people don’t know things like that. For the NFR Open there are things that people have to do to be qualified and eligible. And I have to keep on top of all of that.”
