Lummus helps fellow steer wrestlers get down the road thanks to his physical therapy degree.

BY TRACY RENCK S tandout steer wrestler Will Lummus doesn’t have a nickname, but it should be “Doc” because of the assistance he provides to his fellow competitors because of his background. Lummus received a bachelor’s degree in health and human performance from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2016. Lummus also obtained a Physical Therapist Assistant degree fromWallace State Community College in Hanceville, Ala., in 2016. “It has helped me a lot (having these degrees),” said Lummus, 29. “I have been able to work on myself a lot and I get to help the guys on my team who I travel with. I get to do some cupping therapy and some other things on the guys in the rig. I’m certified in Myofascial Relief 1 and 2, cup therapy and RockTape. I can do all kinds of stuff.” Myofascial Relief is an alternative medicine therapy used for treating skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulating the stretch

reflex in muscles. This season, Lummus is traveling with Clayton Hass, Ty Erickson, and Dakota Eldridge. “I try and help these guys as much as I can,” Lummus said. “When we go to the rodeos, the big rodeos, they will go to ( Justin) SportsMed, and I will go to SportsMed there. But if we are somewhere where there isn’t Sports Med. I will work on them. Last year I worked on the guys at Prineville, Ore. I will work on guys if the SprotsMed is not there at a rodeo or if it isn’t there when we are they competing in slack.” Having Lummus in the rig is a benefit Erickson welcomes. Erickson is a six-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier highlighted by him winning the 2019 PRCA Steer Wrestling World Championship. “It’s a great to have a guy like Will in the rig because most of the time the Justin SportsMedicine guys aren’t around in slack you can a guy who
