Mecklenburg, a member of the Broncos Ring of Fame, will be the featured speaker at the ProRodeo Hall of Fame’s 2024 Spring Sports Fundraiser in Colorado Springs, Colo., May 16. Mecklenburg looks forward to spending the evening with the stars and guests. Doors open at 6 p.m. (MDT). “It’s going to be fun,” Mecklenburg said. “It provides an opportunity to put a highlight on the greatest cowboys of all of time.” Mecklenburg, 63, readily concedes that he never competed in rodeo,
the Denver Broncos as a 12th-round draft pick. He was a 240-pound nose guard who morphed into a linebacker. He knows all about grit. It is something he sees in droves from
professional rodeo athletes. “The toughness, the preparation, putting it all together for an event, you make it, or you don’t and then you have to get ready for the next one,” said Mecklenburg, who underwent 10 surgeries during his career. “I call that the All-Pro approach.”
