The saddle bronc rider who splits time between his home state of Texas and Florida hasn’t seen his woodworking business miss any time over the past year. That’s been a pleasant surprise for him. It’s also been a pleasant surprise to see his name one spot out of the Top 15 in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings as the season hit the midway mark when the calendar flipped to April. “I think it’s exciting any time you’re relevant,” said Antonick, who turns 28 the first week of May. “With the winter rodeos and coming off a weird year last year, it’s been a slower winter. “There haven’t been as many rodeos and it’s about to open up, it looks like. Rodeos are coming back. “Now it’s time to press the gas.”

HALFWAY POINT This time last year there were concerns that the 2020 season would just dissolve. That hasn’t been the case in 2021. There have been weekends with few ProRodeos, but rodeos have happened. And there’s promise of a near-full summer run. The race to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas is on. Rodeos in San Antonio, Arlington, Texas, and Kissimmee, Fla., have paid out significantly. While a few competitors at the top of the standings are there after big wins, the chasing pack are in a tightly contested race to finish in the Top 15 in the world standings. As of April 13, in bareback riding, the difference between fifth place and 20th was $29,514. In steer wrestling, between third and 20th the difference was $20,257. In team roping heading, $17,725 separated third and 20th, while heeling’s difference between third and 20th was $17,761.
