PASSING TIME WITHOUT RODEO SANDY GWATNEY IN THE SADDLE • Two-time Secretary of the Year (2016, 2018) That’s my happy place, on

the back of a horse. I feel sorry for people who don’t know that release. I took my 9-year-old gelding, BrightLites, out for a ride. I have two of the funniest horses in the world, the other horse is SunnyDaze – so I have BrightLites and SunnyDaze. I’ve also been working at a lumberyard. It’s an essential business, so they took me back on for the time I’m home. My husband, John, has been playing catchup around the house. It’s hard because we’ve always been on the road since we got together at the end of 1996. I’ve gotten to ride more, which I missed, so it’s kind of a blessing but it’s a Catch-22. But this too shall pass, and we’ll all figure out a new normal and go from there.

JOSEPH LANGLITZ AND HIS TWIN BULL RIDERS • 46-year-old bull riding permit holder from Texas with twin son and daughter bull riders I had my first permit in 1998 and had to slow down with the twins (Colter and Catalena). They’re 18 years old now, and I rejoined this year. When we all ride at the same time it’s a rush, but I got them to where they can put the rope on and get ready by themselves. Then I’ll check to make sure they got the rope set, then I have to get ready for my turn. At the youth rodeos they would be spaced apart, so there was time to pull their ropes and coach them. Now when I’m riding, they’re trying to coach me. Colter’s going into the Marines and thinks he’s too tall for bull riding now, he’s 6-2, so he wants to start roping. Catalena was on the drop barrel yesterday, but she was stepped on before the quarantine, so she’s been sore lately. After this quarantine is over, we’ll see how much more she wants to push it.
