FALLON COUNTY FAIR & RODEO

Simpson, Carroll clicking in first full season together In the Groove

BY TRACY RENCK L evi Simpson, the 2016 PCRA team roping header world champion, and heeler Shay Dixon Carroll teamed up for the first time in September 2019. This season, the partnership is paying dividends. The duo won the Fallon County Fair & Rodeo with a 4.4-second run in Baker, Mont., during slack Aug. 13. On Aug. 18, Simpson was 10th in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings with $40,918, while Carroll was seventh with $46,788. “I think there were 55 teams in the slack, and we were team 50,” said Simpson, 32. “So, we got to see quite a few go and got a good feel for what

the go was set up to be. It was a nice, smooth run. I hit the barrier really good and got it roped, and Shay heeled him fast. Everything was nice and smooth, and we ended up with a good time.” Carroll agreed. “You’re always excited to win, winning feels good,” said Carroll, 29. Simpson and Carroll each earned $5,403. Simpson, who won his world title with heeler Jeremy Buhler, made his lone appearance at the Wrangler NFR in 2016. “It has been good having Shay as a partner,” said Simpson, who lives in Ponoka, Alberta. “We’ve traveled in the same rig almost the entire year and had some fun other than just roping.” Carroll, who qualified for the NFR in 2014 and 2016, was glad to join.
