Wrangler NFR Fan Contest ongoing

BY THE NUMBERS 3 Number of times the tie-down roping Gooding (Idaho) Pro Rodeo record was tied or broken during the 2019 edition of the rodeo Aug. 15-17. The tie-down roping record of 7.5 seconds was set by J.D. Kibble in 2010. Matt Shiozawa tied the record, Ryle Smith broke it with his 7.4-second run and then Chance Oftedahl broke it again when he won the rodeo with a 7.3-second run. 6 Number of steer roping world championships Trevor Brazile has won in his career. Brazile, who has won a record 24 PRCA world championships, cut back drastically on his rodeo schedule in 2019, but he was still leading the steer roping in the Aug. 19 PRCA | RAM World Standings with $56,618. He was ahead of Vin Fisher Jr. by $2,044. Brazile, whose last steer roping world title came in 2015, is tied for second with Everett Shaw for most steer roping world titles won all-time. Guy Allen won a PRCA-record 18 steer roping world championships.

Lefty Holman out for rest of season

Saddle bronc rider Lefty Holman is done for the

season with a left knee injury.

“My knee started bothering me at Cheyenne (Wyo.) in the short round (July 28), and it just got worse,” Holman said. “The doctors told me I have a tendon that’s torn and some other stuff, and I can’t compete anymore this season. The Top 15 steer ropers in the PRCA based on PRCA | RAM World Standings at the end of the regular season head to their own national championship which is a separate event from the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
