Steer wrestler Cody Cabral won the Lea County PRCA Rodeo in Lovington, N.M., with a two-head average of 7.3 seconds.

Rookie on cusp Rookie tie-down roper Shad Mayfield is trying to make the Wrangler NFR. He’s close, too. The 18-year-old from Clovis, N.M., who won the two- head average in Lovington to take home $6,200, to break into 15th place in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $67,287 as of Aug. 19. He’s also second in the PRCA | Resistol Rookie Standings.

2-1 Punch Team ropers Coleman Proctor and Ryan Motes continue to put together a championship-like season. The winners of The American in Arling- ton, Texas, added another title and $5,710 in Lov- ington, N.M. As of Aug. 19, Proctor was second in the heading world standings with $97,922. Motes was tops among heelers with $103,711.
