SIKESTON JAYCEE BOOTHEEL RODEO SIKESTON, MO. Jake Brown continues heater run

Bareback rider Jake Brown is trying to qualify for his fifth consecutive Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. He inched closer after winning the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo. Brown posted a 92-point ride onThe Cervi Brothers’ Gander Goose to win the Missouri rodeo, Aug. 7-10. “It was awesome,” Brown said. “I’ve always liked that rodeo; I go to it every year. This year I drew the right horse and made it work for the win.” Between July 16 and Aug. 12, Brown earned nearly $20,000, including picking up $5,154 in Sikeston. “This summer has been pretty good,” Brown said. “I had a terrible winter, terrible winter. But I’ve had a pretty good summer, and the last couple of weeks have been even better.” The Cleveland, Texas, cowboy is 12th in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings with $73,125 and 24th in the ProRodeo Tour standings with 2,696.22 points. Brown is focused on sticking inside that Top 24 in the Tour in order to qualify for the ProRodeo Tour Finale in Puyallup, Wash., Sept. 5-8. “It’s important because Puyallup is game changing,” said Brown, 29. “There is a lot of money to be won at Puyallup, and truthfully, the last two years I’ve had good Puyallups. So I kind of have a good vibe going to that rodeo. I’d really like to stay in that Top 24 and be there again this year to have a good shot to win some money.”

LAWTON RANGERS RODEO LAWTON, OKLA.

With about 40 family members and friends in the stands at the Lawton Rangers Rodeo, 18-year-old bull rider Chauk Dees admittedly had some nerves before climbing aboard Beutler & Son Rodeo’s Shootin’ Stars. Dees brushed those nerves aside to post a 91.5-point ride on Shootin’ Stars and win the ProRodeo Tour rodeo and $4,534. “It’s just a great feeling,” said Dees, a permit holder. Dees’ hometown of Marlow is about 20 minutes from Lawton and that’s why all the fans. “There are a lot of extra nerves going on,” Dees said. Dees is planning on purchasing his PRCA card for the 2020 season. This season has been a great experience. “It’s been a ball of fun learning what I need to do for next year,” he said. The 91.5-point ride on Shootin’ Stars was a personal best for Dees, who knew about the bull but hadn’t been on him before. “I saw one video on him, and I knew they rode him at the Finals (Wrangler National Finals Rodeo) last year for a bunch of points,” Dees said. “That was all I knew about him. I just knew he was really going to buck.” Hometown rider gets win
