Trey Kimzey nabs first career Division 1 Xtreme Bulls victory What a Win

BY TRACY RENCK N o matter what Trey Kimzey does over the course of his career, he will always remember Aug. 6, 2019. That’s the day the Strong City, Okla., cowboy won his first Division 1 Xtreme Bulls title, scoring 173.5 points on two head to win the Lea County PRCA Rodeo Xtreme Bulls at Jake McClure Arena in Lovington, N.M. “This is the first time I’ve competed in Lovington, period,” Kimzey said. “This is a great place. There was a big crowd, great fans and it was just an all-around good deal. Lovington is now one my favorite places.” Kimzey, the younger brother of reigning five-time PRCAWorld Champion Bull Rider Sage Kimzey, beat Garrett Tribble by one point for the victory. Trey and Tribble were the only riders to cover two bulls. Trey joins the other winners on the Xtreme Bulls Division 1 circuit this season

In the first round, Trey placed fifth with an 86-point ride on Stace Smith Pro Rodeos’ Hex. “I had never been on Hex, but I had seen him a lot,” Trey said. “Nobody really gets along with that bull, he’s hard to ride. I don’t think I had ever seen him get ridden. He was wild, and I think he’s more intimidating than anything. He’s big and scary and I was able to get him ridden.” Trey followed that with an 87.5-point trip on Lancaster & Jones Pro Rodeo’s White Walker in the finals to get the average win over Tribble. “WhiteWalker was difficult,” said

Trey, who had the top ride in the finals. “He’s out of the right-hand delivery and he shot out there away frommy hand and had me rocked out of there. I made a couple of big moves and got over there at the end. There were four guys after me (in the finals), and there were a lot of good matchups and good guys. Some of the guys left to go were some of my great buddies and I was hoping they did well. Garrett Tribble’s bull weakened at the end or he would have probably won, but it worked out for me.” Now, Trey is hoping his X Bulls win will help him check off something else on his bucket list. “Every guy who is still going up and down the road has a chance to make the NFR, and this amount of money late in the season is crucial,” Trey said. “This is a big-time win. My main goal is just getting to the NFR in Vegas, and (with) the 10 days in Vegas, if you can ride 10 bulls, you can walk away the champion. I have to get there first and then do my job when I get there.”

– Dallee Mason (Fort Worth, Texas), Trey Benton III (San Antonio), Tristan Mize (Fort Mohave, Ariz.), Trevor Reiste (Del Rio, Texas), Sage Kimzey (Reno, Nev.) and Eli Vastbinder (Spanish Fork, Utah). The final stop on the 2019 Xtreme Bulls Division 1 schedule is the Ellensburg (Wash.) Xtreme Bulls Tour Finale, Sept. 1. Sage Kimzey has won the last two Xtreme Bulls season titles and three in the last four years. Trey, who was 11th in the Aug. 19 PRCA | RAMWorld Standings with $91,293, earned $10,491 at the Xtreme Bulls stop. Trey said jumping in the rig with Sage in the summer has paid off. “This year has been a roller coaster,” Trey

Kimzey said. “I jumped in with Sage right at the start of the summer, and it was truly a blessing. He’s helped me out a lot. He knows how to rodeo and that’s a crucial part of it. I can’t thank him enough. Sage and I and Tyler Bingham are traveling together, and all we think about is riding bulls, and if you think about it all the time you have to be good at it, right?” Trey takes a lot of pride in following in Sage’s footsteps while having success in his own right. “Sage is one of the best bull riders in the world, and he’s helped me out a lot to get me to where I’m at today,” Trey said. “It’s not a competition between us. We literally go up and down the road helping each other out, trying to get better at bull riding. This is a great lifestyle.”
