Lawton was a key stop on the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour in 2001

Let’s take a trip down memory lane and enjoy the video on this page. Back on Aug. 11, 2001, the PRCA’s top cowboys competed in Lawton, Okla. Lawton was part of the 2001 Summer Wrangler ProRodeo Tour. The unique format of the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour promoted exciting races in all events as contestants battled through each of the Tour’s stops. Champions of each Tour were crowned at the Tour Finales. ProRodeo Hall of Famer Fred Whitfield won the tie-down roping title in Lawton in 2001 with a 9.0-second run. Above is a photo of Whitfield competing at the 2005 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. He was the PRCA Tie-Down Roping World Champion that year.
