COWBOY GRILLE WITH ALLY GALLAGHER
You haven’t had your card for a full year yet, and you’re already winning rodeos. How much confidence is that giving you as you progress in your career? Quade: Ogden (Pioneer Days Rodeo) gave me a lot of confidence stepping forward. To go out and make a good run at a big rodeo like that, it really gives a guy a lot of confidence. Why did you choose tie-down? Quade: That’s what my dad did, and a lot of my family roped calves. I started at it young and had a little success. I grew to love it. What has this season been like for you, so far? Quade: It’s been a lot of ups and downs, and a lot of learning curves. Did you compete in any other events growing up? Quade: I roped calves and bulldogged. I’m from a bulldogging family, as well. What is your favorite vacation spot? Quade: Anywhere with a beach. You travel a lot – do you have a favorite fast-food restaurant and order? Quade: A club from Subway. What’s your favorite holiday? At 21, tie-down roper Quade Hiatt is making a run at becoming the PRCA | Resistol Rookie of the Year. After clocking 7.3 seconds for a win at Ogden (Utah) Pioneer Days July 20- 24, Hiatt sits second in the Rookie of the Year standings. The Canyon, Texas, native is 35th in the PRCA | RAM World Standings and looking to creep closer to that Top 15 range before October.

Quade: Christmas would have to be my favorite. And the best Christmas gift you’ve ever gotten? Quade: It would have to be a horse. Just can’t beat it. Who is your hero, and why? Quade: It would have to be my dad. He’s the one who taught me everything I know as far as roping and how to become a man. If you didn’t rodeo, what sport would you do? Quade: If I didn’t rodeo, I would probably play football.
Do you have a favorite pump-up song or an ideal song to hear before your run? Quade: I don’t really, I try to tune all that out.
What is your favorite rodeo memory or a recent one that stands out? Quade: My rookie season has been pretty good. But to pick one memory? Oh, dang, being hard on a guy! Outside of my rookie season, I’d have to say winning the all-around at Shawnee (International Finals Youth Rodeo). What’s it like having a big crowd cheer you on at a rodeo? Quade: When the crowd’s electric, it just makes you go that much faster. What are your goals for the season? Quade: The goal for the season is to win the rookie title and make the Finals (Wrangler National Finals Rodeo).
