Kody Lamb out for season

Bareback rider Kody Lamb was having the best season of his PRCA career. But it ended abruptly for the Sherwood, Alberta, cowboy when he was injured at the Westcliffe (Colo.) Stampede, July 18. Lamb, who was 17th in the Aug. 4 PRCA | RAM World Standings with $25,965, was hurt when he was bucked off Rocky Mountain Rodeo’s Shamrock. “I tore one of my major groin muscles completely off my pelvis on my right leg,” said Lamb, 26. “… From what I understand, it might heal on its own. But given the nature of bareback riding, there’s a pretty high likelihood that I will do it again if I don’t get the surgery, so I’m probably Lamb Jesse Wright, the 2012 PRCA world champion saddle bronc rider, is out of action while recovering from arthroscopic right knee surgery. Wright is joined on the sidelines by bull rider Aaron Williams, who has a dislocated left shoulder. Wright suffered the injury July 24 when he was bucked off Frontier Rodeo’s Big Rocket at the Spanish Fork (Utah) Fiesta Days Rodeo. Wright underwent surgery July 30. “I landed back down on my stirrup and my knee hyperextended and popped,” said Wright, 31. Wright is hoping to return before September. As of Aug. 4, Wright was 26th in the PRCA | Bull rider Jordan Spears will not be making a fifth trip to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in 2020. Spears’ season is over due to a partial tear in his left rotator cuff, a broken bone in his left shoulder and broken right wrist. He will have surgery on his wrist over the next couple weeks. He’s expected to be sidelined until October. “It’s just like any sport, when you put your body on the line each and every time you nod your head there are going be times when things don’t go your way,” said Spears, 28.

Wright has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo eight times (2010-14, 2016-17 and 2019). Meanwhile, Williams dislocated his shoulder July 21. The Apple Valley, Calif., cowboy suffered the dislocated shoulder when he was bucked off Frontier Rodeo’s Bootlegger at the Spanish Fork Fiesta Days Rodeo. Williams is planning on coming back at the Cassia County Fair & Rodeo in Burley, Idaho, Aug. 20-22. Williams is outside the Top 50 in the PRCA | RAM World Standings. A year ago, he finished 26th in the world standings with $67,066. Spears suffered the injury July 4 at the Killdeer (N.D.) Mountain Roundup PRCA Rodeo when he was bucked off J Bar J’s Jokers Wild. Spears had surgery on the same shoulder in 2015 which caused him to miss that season. “I hate missing rodeos, but I will be able to stay at home (in Caldwell, Idaho) riding colts, training horses and working in construction or driving trucks,” Spears said. “Hopefully this fall I also will be able to do some hunting.” Spears finished sixth in the 2019 PRCA | RAM World Standings with $211,933.
