Roundup Rodeo with a three-head time of 26.6 seconds. “It was awesome,” said Harris, who banked $7,582 in Dodge City. “You grow up hearing about winning the Dodge City Roundup, the buckles and everything. That’s a pretty big win and I was excited to do it.” The victory helped Harris move into third place in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings with $51,564 as of Aug. 4. Last season, Harris qualified for the Finals as a rookie. He’s in a good position to make it back to Las Vegas and the Finals. “It’s been a good year for me,” Harris said. “I’ve been blessed to ride good horses and have a lot of great help and support. I’m just happy to go do what we love with everything going on in our country right now.” After finishing out of the money in the first round in Dodge City and placing fourth in the second round, the 22-year-old went last in the final round. That helped give him a perspective on what he needed to do. “My game plan got adjusted throughout the short round when it was a little bit softer than what you would’ve thought with the great ropers in the short round,” said Harris, who competed on El Gato, a horse owned by Bart Hutton. “I adjusted my game plan to make sure I got out of the barrier, knock it (the calf ) down and win as much as I could. “As it went on and it got closer to when I was up, I thought it was open for me to win first.” Despite being in a strong spot in the hunt for the Wrangler NFR, Harris isn’t planning on slowing down over the final two months of the season. “It’s what I love to do,” he said. “I’m going to go to as many rodeos as I can, try to have as much fun as I can and hopefully win quite a bit.” $401,285 The record payout this year at the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo, an increase of 20.5% of the previous record ($333,008), set in 2018. 2 The number of bareback riding rodeo re- cords for the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo set by Orin Larsen.
