SPANISH FORK FIESTA DAYS SPANISH FORK, UTAH

Wilde notches first Spanish Fork victory Matched

BY TRACY RENCK I t was a matchup bareback rider MorganWilde was craving. When the McCammon, Idaho, cowboy drew Frontier Rodeo’s Gun Fire at the Spanish Fork (Utah) Fiesta Days Rodeo he was more than ready. Wilde had an 88.5-point ride on Frontier Rodeo’s Gun Fire to win the storied rodeo for the first time. “I placed there off and on through the years and felt like I was about due to get some money out of that thing again,” saidWilde, 32. “They won San Antonio (in the finals with Gun Fire). Mason (Clements) had it (and was 91 points), and then I watched Chad Rutherford win Cody, Wyo., on Gun Fire with a (90.5-point ride). I was tickled to have Gun Fire. She bailed out of there, lined out and really let me get along with her and take advantage of everything. I always wanted to ride her, and she was cool to get on.” Wilde was thrilled with his ride, but he was the second cowboy out and had to watch a star-studded field of competitors try and knock him off the top of the leaderboard. “Kaycee Feild was the last guy out, and I knew he had (Frontier Rodeo’s) Showstomper,” Wilde said. “Kaycee’s a phenomenal bareback rider, and I knew he was going to be hard to beat. I was nervous until the whistle blew with Kaycee.” Feild, a four-time world champion, finished second with an 87-point trip. “This is such a cool rodeo (to win) with all the history there,” Wilde said. “It was awesome. I was awestruck that it had happened. It felt really good to capitalize with that horse.” Wilde earned $7,931, vaulting him to 39th place in the Aug. 4 PRCA | RAMWorld Standings with $9,348. “With all the stuff with COVID-19 this was like the 11th rodeo I had been to this season,” Wilde said. “It’s been tough. To get this big lick gave me a boost of confidence. This win lets me know that I can compete with these top guys.” Wilde competes in the Wilderness Circuit and will be making his third trip to the RAMNational Circuit Finals Rodeo in Greeley, Colo., Sept. 10-13. “My family is my No. 1 priority, and they are also what drives me every day in everything I do,” saidWilde, who works as an electrician when he isn’t rodeoing. “I feel like physically and mentally I’m in better shape than ever right now, and if I can keep momentum going and make sure my family is taken care of, (going full-time in rodeo) possibly could be in the cards.” Wilde and his wife, Amber, have four children, daughters, Quincee, 4, and Kenadee, 7, and sons, Rekker, 7, and Shade, 10. “We had a lot of fun during the quarantine, and we did a lot of camping,” Wilde said.
