Deadwood win keeps wheels turning for Orman, Crites In the Running BY MATT NABER A win in Deadwood, S.D., breathed new life into the summer run for team ropers Jake Orman and Brye Crites. The duo hadn’t won a rodeo until the end of June and Cowboy Christmas didn’t go how they’d hoped. But they second round, the pair didn’t expect to win. But when the rodeo ended July 25, their two-head time of 10.6 seconds was still atop the pack. Their 0.2-second lead meant the difference between packing it in or shooting for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Their Deadwood win was worth $5,815. They also tied for fourth at Nebraska’s Big Rodeo in Burwell that weekend. The earnings from both helped move Orman to 26th in the world standings for team roping heading, while Crites moved to 29th in heeling.
