PRCA ProRodeo photo by Clay Guardipee Taylor Broussard made his debut at the 2019 Wrangler NFR by sliding into the No. 15 spot in the world standings the last day of the regular season. finished 10th in the world standings. “It has been challenging because we’re not riding for the same amount of money we are used to riding for in years past,” said Montero, 28, who was 28th in the world standings. “You have to wrap your head around the idea that $3,000 to $4,000 added at a rodeo is going to really matter to get to the NFR this year. We don’t have as many big opportunities as we have had in years’ past. The opportunities we do have we really have to make count. You’re trying to get to as many rodeos as possible to give yourself a chance to make the NFR.” Fellow bareback rider Taylor Broussard, 16th in the world standings as of Aug. 4, knows all about cramming in rodeos to make the NFR. He won the Sheriff ’s PRCA Rodeo in San Bernardino, Calif., on the final weekend of the 2019 season to slide into the No. 15 spot and make his first trip to the NFR. “You just keep entering and try and win on every horse you possibly can,” said Broussard, 27. “Right now it almost feels like last year because I’m right on the bubble again and I’m just going to keep fighting. Usually at this time of the year, you don’t go to a $3,000 added rodeo, but I’ve been to multiple of them. Anything they possibly have, you go to and try and make the best of it and beat 75 other people. The competition is so intense right now.” – Tracy Renck

“We’ve been to a lot of rodeos we never thought we would go to,” said Meged, 22. “We’re driving 10 hours for $1,000 added rodeo, stuff you would never do. It’s just insane. You have to keep entering and go to all these smaller rodeos because everybody else is going to them.” Saddle bronc rider Colt Gordon, who made it into the No. 14 spot the last week of the 2019 season, is doing his best to deal with the adversity. “It is so spread out and there isn’t going to be a rodeo that you can go to and jump ahead of everybody,” Gordon said. “We have to go all over the country to rodeos. It’s has been crazy. Nobody really has a game plan with all this stuff being canceled. Most of the time you have all the rodeos written down and scheduled out where it’s going to work out good, but you can’t do that this year because you’re bouncing all over the place.” Gordon was 23rd in the Aug. 4 standings. “I’m just going to keep entering and go to every one I can and eventually you are going to get some money,” said Gordon, 23. “I’ve been to more rodeos this year than I ever thought I would.” Bareback rider Trenten Montero knows this season is one he will never forget. Montero made his inaugural trip to the NFR last year and
