IN HIS WORDS TREG SCHAACK Tie-down roper makes most of San Antonio qualifier I t was great to have that qualifier. I think that committee did a good job and the stock contractors did good, too. All of us were really thankful
It was just a bad year. I got a new horse a few months ago, called Quigley. He’s 11. He’s not exceptional at anything. He does everything pretty good, doesn’t get in my way and lets me win. I get along with him pretty well, he fits me pretty good. I bought him fromCody Little from San My dad used to rope calves and rodeo. lt’s something I grew up watching. I just always liked it. When I was a kid he was still roping quite a bit. I got to go with him. It was good. I’ve been around rodeo since I was really young. It’s all I’ve known. I think I speak for everyone when I say it’s a bummer these rodeos are canceling. Nobody wants to see them cancel, nobody likes to see it. When they’re having rodeos, it’s good, everybody is excited to go. (Rodeo) Rapid City was pretty good, the weather was good. Any time a rodeo adds that much and gets that many guys, you have to be there. That’s the plan, to rodeo hard this season. We’re going to go to the best rodeos and hopefully they have the best rodeos like they used to. We’ll get to all of them we can. Saba, Texas. It took a little time for us to figure some stuff out, but the further we go, the better we get.
After a season that went awry due to COVID-19 and horse issues, tie-down roper Treg Schaack is looking to bounce back and get in the hunt for a spot at the 2021 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Schaack earned more than $60,000 over his first two seasons but made less than $1,000 in 2020. He’s already bested that mark early in 2021. Schaack earned $1,820 after tying for first in the first round and finishing second in the finals in Fort Worth at the Stockyards Shootout, a qualifier for the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. The 26-year-old fromWeatherford, Texas, is headed to the prestigious San Antonio rodeo for the first time in his young career.
they put something on to have that opportunity. Everyone did a good job putting it on.
It’s really good because last year they had a San Antonio qualifier, but it wasn’t as good as this year’s because this year had fewer guys. The odds of getting into San Antonio were a lot better. Last year, the San Antonio qualifier had 100- some guys, so it was hard to get through there and get in. I think everyone liked that the PRCA did that this year. With so many rodeos being canceled and no certainty of what rodeos will be going on this summer, it’s nice to go to San Antonio. It’s always been a good rodeo, a good way to win some money and have a good start for the year. I’mmainly looking forward to the fact that there’s good added money and fewer guys in San Antonio (than at most rodeos). Everyone there ropes well. It’s not easy, but the odds are better. I had some horse troubles last year, and with COVID I didn’t go to as many rodeos.
