Memorable Eli Lord makes Rapid City family rodeo BY SCOTT KANIEWSKI E li Lord’s success at Rodeo Rapid City (S.D.) had been up and down. Enough so, that his grandmother, Norma Lytle, was worried maybe the reason he wasn’t doing well there was because she kept attending. Lord needed to prove that wasn’t the case at all – no way was his mom’s mom a jinx.

I’ve been going there with my dad since I was 3 years old.” RIGHTAT HOME The Lords, of Sturgis, S.D., consider Rodeo Rapid City their hometown rodeo. Lord’s father, J.B., won the steer wrestling in Rapid City a few years ago. Now retired from rodeoing but working full time driving for a trucking company, the buckle J.B. still dons every day is the Levi Wisness Memorial Buckle, awarded at Rapid City. Seeing his son also win the steer wrestling buckle obviously had J.B. proud.

Lord won the all-around in 2018, then came back this season and won the steer wrestling and locked up his second consecutive all-around crown at Rodeo Rapid City. “It was a big deal to me,” said Lord, who won $3,259. “That was where I grew up and where I went to high school. So, in a way, that’s more my
