BY ALEX RILEY, Special to ProRodeo Sports News S omewhere between finding the right grip on the bronc rein and dusting the arena floor dirt off his chaps, Jacobs Crawley seemed to routinely hear the phrase faintly coming from the loudspeaker. For the last year or so, it didn’t matter which rodeo the former world saddle bronc champion was competing at, almost every announcer said the same thing about him – over a career that is close to spanning two decades, the Stephenville, Texas, cowboy has more than $2 million in career earnings. “I feel like they’ve been saying it for a year. I was like, ‘That can’t be right.’ You hear announcers talking and you don’t know what to believe,” Crawley said with a laugh. “The good Lord has given me a very blessed life and I’ve had a great rodeo career and it’s been a lot of fun and a lot of great memories. It’s crazy because it doesn’t feel like I’ve been doing it that long.” Crawley is one of the latest PRCA competitors to reach the $2

million milestone over the course of their career. The list of cowboys to eclipse the mark now sits at 49 names all-time following the 2022 season, with several others knocking on the door as the 2023 campaign gears up. Crawley, a 10-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier, has been on the professional circuit since 2006. Tie-down roper Hunter Herrin, who started competing in the PRCA in 2004, can relate as he has also used longevity and good fortune to eclipse the mark recently. The 12-time NFR qualifier finished last season with just shy of $260,000 in earnings to place fourth in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings. But for every good run and check to cash, there are bad days in the arena. Herrin counts himself fortunate to have friends and family who have kept pushing him through during some lean stretches. Back in 2018-19, the Apache, Okla., cowboy failed to earn $8,000 combined between the two years. Since then, he’s been to three straight NFRs. It’s a reminder of how
