BY MATT NABER E xperience trumped youth at the RAM Montana Circuit Finals Rodeo’s team roping as Shane Schwenke and Kory Mytty beat out competition more than half their age for the final chapter of their professional roping careers together. “We have a lot of excitement from being the oldest team,” said Schwenke, 51. “The combined age of the other team (in second) was 38 and we are 100, so it was good to be the old guys and outlast the kids.” The last time Schwenke and Mytty won the RAM MCFR average was in 2005 when they clocked in at 16.6 seconds on three head. “This time is special because we haven’t done it in a long time,” Mytty said. Since the 1980s, Schwenke and Mytty have been chasing calves and buckles across Montana and have

accrued just about everything a cowboy can accomplish short of winning a world title – but they came close when they roped together at the 1994Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Now, 30 years since they first roped together, the only thing stronger than their friendship was their roping skills in Great Falls, Mont., Jan. 13. “The first time we roped was at Kalispell (Mont.) back in 1989,” Schwenke said. “We roped there and won third and jumped in the car toWalla Walla (Wash.) and have been best friends ever since.” Schwenke has been roping in the PRCA since 1988. He’s made four trips to the Wrangler NFR (1993-1994, 1996 and 2005) and seven trips to the RAMNational Circuit Finals Rodeo (1993, 1995, 1997-1998, 2004- 2005, 2009). Mytty started on his permit when he was 14 years old in 1983. This will be Mytty’s 12th time competing at the
