Gatlin attended Jefferson Independent School District and Kilgore College. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and later was called to serve again during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Gatlin enjoyed participating in rodeos on the weekends and vacations. The family traveled all over the United States to compete in rodeos. He won many saddles, trophies, belt buckles and other prizes. In 2000, he was named the USTRCChampion Header, winning money and a new trailer. He was inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, and at the Gladewater (Texas) Round-Up Rodeo he was presented with gold spurs. Gatlin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth M. Gatlin; and his younger son, Skipper Allen Gatlin. He is survived by his eldest son, Chip (Dyanne) Gatlin; granddaughter, Brooke (Nick) Wesson; granddaughter, Lauren (Dustin) Hardin; grandson, Sloan Adam Gatlin; great-grandson, Spencer Allen Gatlin; great-granddaughter, Haegan Grace Hardin; his grandson, Louis Wilson. The service was Jan. 19 at Welch Funeral Home in Longview, Texas. The family asked for donations to County Line Baptist Church in Harleton, Texas, in lieu of flowers. RUSH LEON HERRINGTON Rush Leon Herrington, of Palestine, Texas, a PRCA Gold Card member, passed away Jan. 7, at his home. He was 81. The highlight of Herrington’s PRCA career came in 1974 when he qualified for the National Finals Rodeo in steer wrestling. He finished 10th in the world standings that season. Herrington retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 42 years of service. He was a founding member of the Anderson County Youth Livestock Association, where he served as president for 40-plus years. Herrington served on the Brushy CreekWater Board and the Federal Department of Agriculture Board. He was a reserve deputy for Anderson County and served in the National 25); Martina McBride (March 26); The Jacksons (March 27); Dustin Lynch (March 28); Parker McCollum (March 29); Kevin Fowler (March 30). Former NFR announcer Endsley passes away Don Endsley, who was an announcer at the 1984 National Finals Rodeo and was a PRCA Gold Card member, passed away Jan. 16. He was 70. Endsley, a former bull rider, also announced marquee rodeos such as the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in Denver and RodeoHouston.

DON (JUG) REYNOLDS

Don “Jug” Reynolds of Bowie, Texas, passed away Jan. 9. He was 81. Reynolds was born May 29, 1937, in Vernon, Texas. He was the son of Fess Reynolds, a rodeo contestant, bullfighter and rodeo clown. Before Jug was 3, he performed with his dad for the public in Eric, Okla. When Fess became a member of the Cowboys’ Turtle Association in 1940 he also signed up Jug who was 3 years old, making him the youngest ‘Turtle’ member. In 1943, Fess and Jug went to Madison Square Garden in New York. Fess was to compete in the rodeo and Jug was to perform with his trick pony and trick rope. Confronted with child labor laws Jug didn’t perform but he still practiced his act. Roy Rogers suggested Jug move to California and he would try to put him in movies. Jug was the last Little Beaver in the Red Ryder movie series. Not only was Fess a rodeo clown, but he also trained animals. His boys became animal trainers. Jug trained the white horse Shadowfax that appeared in Harry Potter movies. When Jug retired he returned to Texas. He is survived by his brother, Rick; his sister, Sammy McCaffrey; sons, Troyce and Shawn (companion, Penny Tucker) and numerous grandchildren and Norman Gatlin, a PRCA Gold Card member and Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame Inductee, passed away Jan. 13. He was 83. Gatlin was born to Nathan Andrew and Betty Sue Allen Gatlin on Oct. 5, 1935, in Harleton, Texas. He spent his childhood growing up with his brother, Rex Andrew Gatlin, and the family in Jefferson, Texas. He was a member of County Line Baptist Church. BRADY MITCHELL HARTT A boy, born Jan. 11 to PRCA tie-down roper Brad Hartt and his wife, Randie Jo, of Sebring, Fla. Brady weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces, and was 21½ inches long. This is the couple’s first child. KWADE KASH MANKE A boy, born Dec. 19 to PRCA saddle bronc rider Ty Manke and his wife, Trista, of Piedmont, S.D. Kwade weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 19½-inches long. This is the couple’s first child.

Endsley’s voice was heard in the 1991 movie My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys . His voice was also featured in a Wrangler jeans TV commercial with PRCA bull riding world champion Ted Nuce. Endsley rode bulls into the early 1970s, and in 1976 he got his start announcing PRCA rodeos – his first coming in Duluth, Minn. A memorial service and a celebration of Endsley’s life will be held Jan. 26 at Drasco (Ark.) General Baptist Church, 6800 Heber Springs Road.
