Making HisWay BY TRACY RENCK A son following in the footsteps of his father is never an easy task. Especially when that father is ProRodeo Hall of Fame bull rider Cody Custer. Yet, that was the path Brett Custer chose, and he’s slowly carving his niche in the PRCA. The Elk City, Okla., cowboy captured his first big, PRCA rodeo crown when he won the West of the Pecos (Texas) Rodeo, June 30. Custer claimed the title with an 86.5-point re-ride on Pete Carr Pro Rodeo’s Super Freak. “I knew I was going to take the re-ride, and I was going to get on whatever they ran under me,” said Custer, 20. “He went out two jumps with

He was in 29th place in the July 12 PRCA | RAMWorld Standings with $33,347. “To get this first big rodeo win under my belt felt really good,” said Custer, who kept his momentum going by winning the average at the Headwaters Xtreme Bulls Division 2 event in Park Rapids, Minn., July 5.
