NOT THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN

LAS VEGAS HOSTS A TRIO OF WESTERN-THEMED COMPETITIONS THAT PERFECTLY COMPLEMENT WRANGLER NFR By Neal Reid

W

hen the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo comes to Las Vegas each December, the Enter-

tainment Capital of the World is trans- formed into a true “Cowboy Town.” And it’s not just the world’s richest rodeo that brings hundreds of thou- sands of fans to the burgeoning sports mecca in the Nevada desert—after all, only 18,000 fans are fortunate enough to see the Wrangler NFR live each night at theThomas &Mack Center. Luck- ily, there are multiple opportunities for fans who live and breathe the Western lifestyle to see impressive athletes square off for cash and prizes at arenas all over town during Rodeo Week. Chief among the ancillary competi- tions is the Ariat World Series of Team Roping, which has hosted its finale at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa’s Equestrian Center each of the last 13 years. The massive event fea- tures approximately 4,000 contestants competing in four arenas for a chance at winning six figures.
