CHEYENNE FRONTIER DAYS CHEYENNE, WYO. Sheets scores first Cheyenne win

In his sixth year of ProRodeo competition, steer roper Trey Sheets scored his first career win at his hometown rodeo, Cheyenne Frontier Days. “It’s unbelievable,” Sheets said. “I’ve been second at a lot of rodeos and never won one, and for it to be Cheyenne is unbelievable. I can’t tell you how much it means to me.” Sheets placed second in the first round with a 13.5-second run and second in Round 2 with a 15.6-second run to win the average by three-tenths of a second at 45.6 seconds on three head. “You have to be really consistent, and the steers were really good this year,” Sheets said. Consistent runs came atop T-Pain, Sheets’ 19-year-old horse. “I’ve won a lot on him heading and heeling, too,” Sheets said. “I started tripping steers on him in 2012, and he’s strong on the horn and consistent.” The 28-year-old from the Cowboy State had his best season in 2016, when he won $12,346.

He’s more than doubled that amount in 2019 thanks to his $19,903 Cheyenne win, which pushed him from 45th to 13th in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings in steer roping. That jump has him changing plans to pursue his first qualification to the ClemMcSpadden National Finals Steer Roping. “I’m looking through the books now and will try to make the Finals

and will try to figure it all out and how I can get everywhere,” Sheets said. “I wasn’t planning on rodeoing at all, but I’m shifting gears. I train horses for a living, but I will put that on the back burner and focus on roping and try to go win some more. “I wish I’d entered more rodeos. I was thinking about it before but now I will – I feel on top of the world right now.”

Clayton Biglow goes big Clayton Biglow has never missed qualifying for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo since staring his ProRodeo career in 2016. And the 2016 Bareback Riding Rookie of the Year is well on his way to making a fourth qualification. Biglow is aiming for his first world title after winning Cheyenne pushed him from third to second in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings. “Last year it slipped by me,” Biglow said. “The last two years I had a good shot at the world title and let it slip by me at the Finals, so I want to have as much money as I can for when I get to Vegas.” The final round at Cheyenne presented a clean slate and a single, eight-second ride determined the champion. “It’s like a one-header, and that makes a guy let it all hang out on one ride,” Biglow said. “I enjoy it because it’s a spurring contest.” The California cowboy placed third in the sixth performance at Cheyenne with an 85.5-point ride and second in the semifinals with an 89.5-point ride. He won the final round with a 91-point ride on Stace Smith Pro Rodeos’ Witchy Woman and took home $11,785. “There’s a lot of history here,” Biglow said. “When you retire, you can look back and say you won Cheyenne, and not a lot of guys can say they did that.”
