“Man, I just try to block that stuff out of my head,” Baldwin said. “In the final round, (Clay) Tryan popped it off (missed the catch) so I knew we would win second, so I just let it hang loose.” Another advantage was having seen their draw before when Tyler Wade and Billie Jack Saebens roped him in 5.4 seconds in the third performance. “We knew we had one of the better steers,” Baldwin said. That approach paid off to the tune of $10,920 thanks to a 5.7-second run. Before their Colorado Springs win, Baldwin and Garza were ranked 35th and 36th in their respective events in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings. As of July 30, they’d jumped to 20th and 17th. “It means a lot, it’s something I had on my bucket list and I can cross it out now,” Garza said. “It was a thrill to have the opportunity to win it. It feels really good and comes in handy right at this time since we’re traveling from Salinas (Calif.) to Cheyenne (Wyo.).”

$17.8K Bull rider Trevor Kast- ner earned $17,800 as the only cowboy to make a qualified ride in the finals at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, an 87.5-point ride on Vold Rodeo’s Whirl- wind.

For the second week in a row, saddle bronc rider J.J. Elshere, 39, had the highest-scored ride of the week with 90.5-points on Vold Rodeo’s Moon Valley in Colorado Springs. Elshere then hit the road to watch his son, Talon, compete in saddle bronc riding at the National High School Finals Rodeo. 5 BRONCS IN 24 HOURS The fifth bronc that bareback rider Trenten Montero rode in a 24-hour period was worth $10,000. Montero placed second at the Ute Stampede in Nephi, Utah, and then won the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo the following day.
