DINOSAUR ROUNDUP RODEO VERNAL, UTAH Minor brothers cash in during rare appearance
Team roping brothers Riley and Brady Minor hadn’t been to the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo in Vernal, Utah, in recent years. They hadn’t had much luck there, so they hadn’t made the trek there. But since they were competing in Casper, Wyo., they entered Vernal because it was on the ProRodeo Tour and they were hoping to score some points. The side trip paid off. The Minors stopped the clock in 4.2 seconds and cashed in for $4,072, in addition to those Tour points. “I haven’t had much success at Vernal at all,” said Brady, the heeler. “We usually don’t enter that rodeo. I hadn’t been for a few years. But because it was a Tour rodeo and we didn’t have many points and we were entered at Casper, we figured we’d go. It worked out good that we went.” Riley and Brady were each in third place in their respective events in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings, as of July 30. Riley was 10th in the Tour team roping heading standings, Brady in 11th in heeling.

College student Lee scores tie-down roping win Permit holder Roy Lee has been sticking to the Great Lakes Circuit this season while also rodeoing for Missouri (Marshall) Valley College. The 22-year-old tie-down roper is planning on purchasing his card when the 2020 season rolls around in the fall. He’ll have a little extra confidence after nailing down the win at the Home of the North Rodeo in Spooner, Wis., July 11-13. Lee stopped the clock in 9.8 seconds and took home $2,248 plus ProRodeo Tour points for the win. “Man, it gives you confidence,” Lee said. “You can play with those guys (the pros) if you use your head. I used my head, running into him (the calf ) and making sure not to make mistakes on the ground. It turned out just right.” Because of the setup in Spooner, the run went farther than Lee expected, but it still turned out well. “That’s a real big win,” he said. “It’s one of our biggest circuit wins. The goal there was to place and let them beat me. I just made the run I thought I needed to make, and it turned out to be the winning run.”
