BY MATT NABER W ithout winning a single rodeo this season Finals Rodeo. Buckles are nice, but winning big bucks is nicer since qualifying for the Finals is based on money won and not on how many times a cowboy places first throughout the season. Discouraging to not claim a buckle? Yes. Problematic? Not in the least. It’s not unheard of for ProRodeo athletes to make it to the Finals without “winning” a rodeo. Team roper Jake Cooper made it to the 2019 NFR that way, and Erich Rogers did it in 2018. Many more did it with a single win or a split win. Of the seven NFR-qualifying events, 15 of the 105 cowboys in the Top 15 as of July 16 had not won a rodeo outright in 2020. outright, several ProRodeo athletes have climbed the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings and could likely find themselves at the Wrangler National
