BY SCOTT KANIEWSKI W hen Cole Fischer was cage fighting, his mother, Dina, avoided attending the events. She didn’t want to watch her son get locked in a cage and go toe-to-toe with another guy trying to dish out as much pain as possible. But when Fischer told her he wanted to start bull riding, Dina’s response: Go back to cage fighting, at least there’s a referee who can stop the fight.

Fischer finished the 2019 season as the Great Lakes Circuit year-end champion for the first time. He earned his berth to his first RAMNational Circuit Finals Rodeo after finishing the season with $24,311 in his circuit. His nearest competitor in the Great Lakes Circuit was almost $7,000 behind. “It was relieving,” said Fischer, of Jefferson City, Mo. “It’s always nice to set a goal early in the season and be able to accomplish it. The (2019) season started slower than I wanted to, but I got on a roll in the middle of summer and was able to finish
