BY TRACY RENCK T ie-down roper Shad Mayfield has been spectacular in the arena in 2020. Before the COVID-19 pandemic forced a halt to ProRodeo, Mayfield was nearly unstoppable. When Cave Creek (Ariz.) Rodeo Days restarted rodeo the weekend of May 22-24, Mayfield picked up where he had left off, winning there in 8.5 seconds. Mayfield leads the 2020 PRCA | RAMWorld Standings with $138,365. “This year has been crazy,” Mayfield said. “This winter I won dang- near every rodeo I went to except Jackson, Miss. Last season, as a rookie, Mayfield made his NFR debut, finishing 12th in the world standings with $127,075. This season, Mayfield earned $603,000 at The American, March 7-8 in Arlington, Texas – $53,000 that counted toward the world standings. He also earned $24,500 from winning the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, Feb. 22.
