SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS

BY TANNER BARTH & TRACY RENCK

Feild keeps stacking more titles Family is just one of the many things that Kaycee Feild holds near and dear to his heart. As his career progresses and his family continues to grow it has gained even more importance. That’s one of the reasons you’ve only seen the reigning PRCAWorld Champion Bareback Rider at two rodeos so far during the 2022 season. His early season success has him exactly in the position he wants to be in. “Getting a good start on these big winter rodeos kind of sets up my season,” said Feild, 35. “It’s awesome, I plan on taking my family a lot more with me this year and winning these big rodeos makes it a lot easier to afford flights. “Then on top of that I get to take them a lot more often with me and be selective where I go rodeoing. That’s something that I’m really looking forward to and it’s a big push for me with my motivation to be able to take my family.” He has entered two rodeos this season and earned a remarkable $47,360, which has him sitting No.1 in the PRCA | RAMWorld Standings. His latest payday came after he won the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo with a 91.5-point ride on the Calgary Stampede’s Agent Lynx. He said winter rodeos that are tournament style formats make a cowboy step up his game. In San Antonio’s case it was an all or nothing in the final round. “I really like when it comes down to the wire. It gives you that little extra adrenaline, knowing you have to hang it all out there or you’re going to get beat,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to continuing the year and with all this motivation I just want to keep it rocking and rolling. J.D. Struxness came into the San Antonio Stock Show& Rodeo looking for a performance to get his season pointed in the right direction. Little did he know it would end up being one of the most successful weekends he’s ever had during the ProRodeo regular season. The Milan, Mont. steer wrestler, placed in the top three in the first three rounds of bracket competition, setting himself up with the opportunity to advance to the finals. He took full advantage of that laying down a 3.4-second run to win his first San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo championship. “It’s a great feeling because this rodeo has been on my bucket list for a long time,” said Struxness, 27. “It’s one of the bigger rodeos that we get to go to, and it gives you a great start to the year. So, to finally get the championship here is awesome.” Riding the reigning PRCANutrena Steer Wrestling Horse of the Year “Tyson” he knew he had a chance at the money with his draw. But it was going to take a near perfect run to take down a stacked field of competitors. “I was just going to go out and use the steer I had drawn,” he said. “We knew he was pretty good and would give us a chance at the money. I just wanted to hit the barrier and make a good run on him. It all worked out in my favor here tonight. “But it wouldn’t have been possible without Tyson and Curtis (Cassidy) hazing for me. He’s a great horse, they’ve done good on him the last few years. I have to thank Curtis for letting me get on him down there.”
