an average time of 18.8 seconds on three head. They each cashed for $6,767. They each also picked up 550 points in the ProRodeo Tour standings. “It was one on the list I wanted to win, one of the major rodeos I hadn’t gotten,” LeMond said. “It’s pretty exciting to get the victory there.” LeMond climbed to eighth in the ProRodeo Tour standings with 673.54 points, while Yates is up to seventh with 759.70. It was also Yates’ first time winning at Tucson. “It was a good win,” Yates said. “It really kind of sparked JoJo, too, I think. It kind of gave us hope back, a little refresher that we can do it.” GOING BACKYEARS LeMond and Yates have known each other since Yates was young. BY SCOTT KANIEWSKI A t 23, team roping heeler Trey Yates is fresh off winning the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo average in his first trip to the Finals. And he’s eager for more, entering as frequently as he can to get back to Las Vegas.
At 36, team roping header JoJo LeMond is a family man with a ranch, priorities that outweigh being on the rodeo trail full time. He’d like to go often, but he gets out when time permits. An unlikely pairing for sure, but one that is proving – and has proven – to be a strong match. LeMond and Yates teamed to win La Fiesta de los Vaqueros in Tucson, Ariz., a ProRodeo Tour stop, winning the final round of the rodeo and the average. The duo posted a time of 5.9 seconds in the final round, giving them
