PASSING TIME WITHOUT RODEO

PRCA members make the most of their time off Downtime Time No Like

BY MATT NABER

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to keep all forms of ProRodeo competition at bay, leaving cowboys with nothing but time on their hands. Many are practicing hard to perfect their skills for when the arena gates open (see related story on page 26) while quite a few are keeping busy earning extra cash during this unprecedented time.

CODY EMERSON DOING A LITTLE FENCING • PRCA bullfighter and two-time nominee for bullfighter of the year.

My wife (Sierra) and I have been working cattle and building fences on our ranch near Marble Falls, Texas. We have about 50 cows, so we’re improving our place, and I do some welding for a buddy’s fencing company. It’s been a blessing to have friends who will help you out. I have plenty of work to do building fences. Honestly, it’s pretty boring because we aren’t fighting any bulls. I think every bullfighter looks forward to that adrenaline rush and seeing their buddies. All the bullfighters and bull riders are great friends and like a family you get to see every week. Saving them from being hurt is the best feeling, but that’s not there anymore. When this is over, there will be a lot more bulls getting fought than normal.
